My great-grandfather, Norman Shapiro, was one of seven brothers born to immigrant parents in Philadelphia. In 1914, these entrepreneurial brothers, none having more than a sixth-grade education, founded seven poster printing companies in seven cities.  One hundred years later, the dynamic posters they printed hang in over 100 museums!  

My father, Duke Zimmerman, and I, third- and fourth-generation printers ourselves, want to share their story and the ways in which our first book, People Get Ready, reflects the changing times and offers insight into the African American civil rights movement in America.
